Introducing Hyster To Steadfast Roofing

STEADFAST ROOFING

Founded in 1987, Steadfast Roofing has been a mainstay in the Home Counties for over thirty years.

Based in Bedfordshire, Steadfast Roofing is one of the largest independent roofing contractors in the country and is a forward-thinking company, with a sister organisation in Colchester.

Much of its business is focused on the installation of pitched roof coverings and solar photovoltaic panels for the major housebuilders, and there is often need to delivermaterials from storage to site.

To keep up with periods of peak demand, the company wanted to change its older forklift for a newer, more versatile model.

THE REQUIREMENT

Steadfast Roofing’s daily operation is straightforward: deliveries of new supplies come in, and pallets of materials head out to various sites where work is taking place. With up to 35 different delivery operations taking place each day in the summer, loading and unloading of the trucks falls to Yardsman Liam Ball.

With two forklifts on site – one reaching the end of its days, it was important to bring in a newer machine. With a well-organised warehouse for storage of materials and a sizeable yard, manoeuvrability and flexibility were key considerations – especially over some multi-surfaces.

The Solution

Having serviced Steadfast’s Artison trucks for years, Hitec were thrilled when we were asked to demonstrate from the Hyster range.

Alongside this, when visiting, Paul also learned of their need for a pallet truck. Steadfast were using a HPT (hand pallet truck) and as many of the pallet loads are of lead, it was important to chose a PT that could handle the weight, and also had extra power to help move the loads. Paul suggested a demonstration of an electric truck and so an EP12-EZ Pro was brought along for the demo.

During the demonstration, Liam was given the chance to try out both pieces of equipment (the PPT and a Hyster 3t LPG counterbalance forklift). After trialing the forklift, it was decided that a 3t diesel would be appropriate for Steadfast’s needs, due to its ability to operate well in all weathers and on the rough ground.

The forklift came with a fully sealed, heated cab, perfect for autumn and winter work and with a boom height of 3.5m, the counterbalance is also better suited to use inside the open warehouse as it can easily lift to the top levels of their racking.

EASIER TO SERVICE & RUN

Due to Hyster being a British made brand, parts and service materials are readily available for the 3.0XT.

Its clever, ergonomic design and fuel saving capabilities also mean its smoother and more cost efficient to run. Fast, manoeuvrable and powerful, the 3t diesel counterbalance is perfect for their yard to warehouse operations.

IMPROVED PRODUCTION

Able to confidently use their forklift, whatever the weather, Steadfast are able to keep production moving. The heated cab means that even when its winter, operators can remain warm and comfortably carry out their duties without the distraction of being cold.

Two forklifts also ensure that when business is at its busiest that they’ll able to remain on top of deliveries.

SAFER OPERATIONS

The addition of the EP pallet truck has helped to reduce the need for manual handling as well as the likelihood of injury for employees who need to move pallets.

Before the pallet truck was pedestrian and required them to strain. Now they can move heavier loads safely, securely and at a steady pace.
