If you need a general purpose forklift, suited to both indoor and outdoor use, a counterbalance truck could be the machine that you’re after.
So named due to the large weight which overhands the rear wheels to keep the forklift on solid ground when lifting heavy loads, counterbalance forklifts are the most popular type of truck, and what many think of when they picture a forklift.
Three Wheels Or Four?
Whilst the standard configuration for these trucks is to have four wheels, which enables them to lift great weights securely and to deal with unsteady ground easier, there are three wheel models available.
These are able to manoeuvre in smaller spaces, making them a better choice for narrow aisles in warehouses, however their lifting capacity and their ability to deal with uneven surfaces is reduced as a result.
