The Hitec Reterospective: 2019

And just like that, another year is over.

2019 has gone by in a flash and whilst there’s been ups and downs, it’s been a great year for Hitec Lift Trucks. The tree is up, the lights are on and with Christmas only a couple of days away and with the dawn of 2020 on the horizon, it’s time to take a look back at our 2019 journey.

This year we’ve concentrated on expansion, growing our team, growing our space and growing our fleet.

We’ve come on leaps and bounds with the Hyster brand and have also added Hako cleaning equipment to the long list of equipment we can provide for sale and hire.

Our sales, hire and service teams have all welcomed new faces, whilst management of the business will be changing just after Christmas. Our two founders, Andy Selbie and Pros Girardi have embraced retirement and the next chapter of Hitec’s story will be led by recently promoted Adam Lantsbery.

We’ve taken on an additional building on Leyland Industrial Estate, allowing us to house even more equipment, our sales team and the Hitec Christmas Tree.

2019 has also seen Hitec Lift Trucks take on challenges for charity, including a sponsored 9k walk for Wellingborough Mind, a 5k Santa Run for SANDs and most recently Christmas Jumper day for Save the Children. We want to thank everyone who has sponsored members of team Hitec over the year, it’s wonderful to receive such support!

We couldn’t be where we are now without the phenomenal support of our customers. Not only have we had a bumper year for sales, but it’s been an incredible opportunity to work alongside some brilliant businesses and individuals. We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone we’ve spoken to, delivered to and met with over 2019 and we hope that we get the chance to do so again in 2020.

In the meantime, we’d like to wish everyone a very happy festive season! Have a wonderful time and we will see you again in the New Year!

Briggs Equipment UK

New Acquisition For Briggs Equipment

Briggs Equipment has completed the acquisition of Northern Forklift (Scotland) Ltd, one of Scotland’s largest independent materials handling distributors. This further enhances the position of the asset management and engineering services specialist, as one of the key providers of materials handling equipment in Scotland.

Northern Forklift has achieved significant success supporting the thriving food and drink sector in Scotland.  The combination of Briggs Equipment and Northern Forklift will provide customers with access to a broader range of products and services. In line with the Briggs offering, Northern Forklift will also now be able to offer the Hyster and Yale product ranges.

Peter Jones, Group Managing Director of Briggs Equipment explained, “Northern Forklift (Scotland) Limited is a valuable addition to the Briggs group, bringing a wealth of knowledge and engineering skill. In addition, this will add depth to our already broad customer portfolio, drawing on Northern Forklift’s relationships with some of Scotland’s biggest brands. I am really pleased to be able to welcome the employees and customers of Northern Forklift in Scotland to the Briggs group.”

Andy Sirel, Managing Director of Northern Forklift (Scotland) Ltd said, “There is an obvious fit between the two companies in Scotland in terms of our collective customers and employees which going forward will benefit all stakeholders. Briggs Equipment are determined to be the leading materials handling provider in Scotland, so this is an exciting time to join the Briggs group. They already have the necessary foundations in place, so as we work together to deliver best practice on asset management and engineering services across Scotland and build on already well established customer relationships, I have no doubt that we can achieve that goal.”

The acquisition sees Northern Forklift (Scotland) Limited become a wholly owned subsidiary of Briggs, continuing to trade under its own name and with all current operational contacts remaining in place.

Adding To The Family

As demand grows, so does our team to help accommodate! In the past few months we’ve welcome two new additions to the Hitec family, Elena Zekonyte (accounts) and Amanda Behan (hire). Want to join Hitec? Why not check out our current career opportunities?

Elena started with us in May and has grown to be a vital member of the team. Joining the accounts team as an accounts assistant Elena helps to manage the financial side of Hitec.

Endlessly enthusiastic and very friendly, Elena is new to the material handling industry but so far has thoroughly enjoyed being a member of Team Hitec and is dedicated to providing the very best service to our customers.

Outside of work, Elena enjoys creating homemade jewellery and seasonal decorations, all whilst trying to manage her crazy Jack Russell.

With the need to expand our hire team, Amanda joined us in June. Previously working as a service coordinator in the compressed air industry, Amanda is fairly new to the hire sector (and material handling!) but she’s taken to the role like a duck to water.

Learning new skills every day and working alongside Hitec’s team of engineers means that every day is different, but Amanda is enjoying the challenge.

Beyond Hitec, Amanda is a keen runner and likes to socialise with friends and spend time with her family.

Welcome to the Hitec Family!

Spending Time With Wellingborough Mind

As some of you may know, back in June our very own Adam Lantsbery and Hannah Newman-Plummer took part in the Waendel Walk to help raise money for local mental health charity, Wellingborough Mind. The walk itself was a great success and involved thousands of people, some fundraising for various causes and some just participating for the fun of it.

Today, Hannah and Adam had the priviledge to sit down with the Chief Executive of Wellingborough Mind, Nigel Mansfield, to talk about how the money raised by Hitec (£452.50) will be used to help support the local community. A charity very close to the hearts of both walk participants, Mind also runs ‘Crisis Cafe‘ a drop in service on Friday and Saturday nights for anyone who wants or needs any support.

Adam was particularly touched when he heard more about the work that Mind did; ‘It was great talking to Nigel, I wasn’t fully aware of all of Mind’s wider activities in our local community, Hitec will certainly work to become more involved in the future.’

With plans to take part in the walk again next year (and get more of our team involved!) meeting Nigel was a fantastic opportunity and Mind is a genuinely wonderful cause to get behind. Hitec are very proud to support Wellingborough Mind.

Vertikal Days 2019

Vertikal Days 2019

For the past two (and a half) days, Hitec Lift Trucks have been exhibiting at Donington Park’s annual access equipment event, Vertikal Days!

Vertikal Days 2019

Situated at stand 207, we were out in the beautiful sunshine for the full two days of the event and were lucky enough to meet some fantastic industry professionals and were able to show off just what a broad range of equipment we have available; some people were genuinely surprised that we were able to provide for all areas of material handling equipment! Also, most of us got sunburn.

Vertikal Days 2019

In the evening of the first night, we took part in a networking evening that saw delicious food and fantastic entertainment from the band Rollercoaster, although we didn’t get down and boogie on the dance floor, we probably deafened a few people with our singing along!

Vertikal Days 2019

Day two was a little more overcast but still a fantastic opportunity to meet and talk with the event visitors.

Thank you Vertikal Days for having us, we look forward to next year!

A Belated Christmas and a Farewell Party

Saturday saw both joy and a few tears as we belatedly celebrated Christmas and also bid a fond farewell to Andy Selbie who, alongside Prospero Girardi, began Hitec Lift Trucks over thirty years ago.

Xmas + Andy's Retirement

Nearly everyone from the Hitec family was able to make the meal, including partners, husbands and wives. Held at Oriental Paradise in Billing, the team were treated to three courses of delicious food and many a laugh. After everyone had their fill, Pros took center stage to thank Andy for his service. Much Mr Selbie’s  embarrassment.

Xmas + Andy's Retirement Meal

Andy has taken part in nearly every area of Hitec since it’s inception, from working the tools to driving the lorry, from hire to ownership of the office dog. Now, he has plenty of time to rest and relax alongside Pip! As a thank you for all of his help, support and partnership over the years, Andy was presented with a certificate for steam train experience and given more than a few thankful hugs from Pros. Andy will be retiring from Hitec at the end of May and he’ll be dearly missed!

Xmas + Andy's Retirement

Alongside Andy’s retirement, the Hitec team finally had the opportunity to celebrate Christmas. A bit late perhaps, but we still managed to have a fantastic time with more than a few members becoming a little jolly.

Hopefully next time we’ll celebrate Christmas a little closer to December…

Hitec Team Members Take Part In Charity Walk For Wellingborough Mind

On May 11th, team members Adam Lantsbery (Sales Director) and Hannah Newman-Plummer (Marketing Administrator) will be taking part in 2019’s Waendel Walk to raise money in aid of local mental health charity, Wellingborough Mind.

For two people who are known for a love of doughnuts, it’s going to be a big challenge but all in aid of a good cause.

Joining ‘Team Mind’ for the morning, Adam and Hannah will walk alongside Wellingborough Mind staff, volunteers and other fundraisers for the 9 mile (15km) hike on the second Saturday of the Month.

A fantastic organisation, Mind operates throughout the UK and offers support for anyone who struggles with their mental health. With an aim to reduce stigma and ensure that anyone who experiences a mental health problem receives help and respect, Mind is a wonderful resource and can help many better understand mental health.

If you’d like to help support Adam and/or Hannah, you can sponsor them by getting in touch with us on 01933 228127.
