Job Role: Workshop Engineer
As a Workshop Engineer you will be responsible for;
- The service and maintenance of diesel, LPG and electrical materials handling equipment
- Fault finding, planned preventative maintenance and pre delivery inspection of forklift trucks
- Maintaining a clean and orderly working area including common areas
- Adhering to all health and safety guidelines and workshop rules
- Completing job cards and ensuring all required parts to complete tasks are ordere
As a Workshop Engineer you will demonstrate;
- Relevant technical qualification
- Previous experience within either a workshop or field based position
- Good understanding of hydraulic, mechanical and electrical principals
- The ability to work independently and under pressure
- The ability to manage and prioritise workload
- Experience of working on either; cars, forklifts, plant equipment, cleaning machines, powered access, HGV’s or similar.

Role: Hire Controller
Salary: £20,000 – £24,000 depending on experience.
As a Hire Controller you will be responsible for:
- Dealing with all enquiries from customers and salespeople who require forklift trucks for hire on a short-term basis and negotiating; rates fuel and transport chargers
- Arranging off hire procedures when customers phone to return equipment
- Ensuring all screen information is updated regularly so other users have access to accurate information
- Using and updating the bespoke internal IT system
- Liaising with the Service department to ensure trucks are available to meet the customers’ requests
- Ensuring all short-term rental contracts are signed and follow up if not received before hire commences
- Warm calling and quote chasing
As a Hire Controller you will have:
- Knowledge of the hire process for either forklift trucks, plant machinery or related equipment
- Experience in a customer facing role, with a good telephone manner
- Strong IT skills
- The ability to work as an effective team player
- To be able to balance an ever-changing workload
- Excellent organisation skills
- Attention to detail

Prospero Girardi, the co-founder of Hitec Lift Trucks alongside Andy Selbie, has won a prestigious lifetime achievement award at the recent Forklift Truck Association Awards for Excellence ceremony. This was the 26th annual event and the first to be held completely online having been twice postponed due to the pandemic.
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognises those individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to their business and the wider industry over an extended period of time. Only a select group have ever received this award, which is testament to the positive legacy of Prospero’s hard work, dedication, and innovation during his 33 years in charge of Hitec.
Pros has dedicated his working life to the growth and development of the Hitec business and during that time he helped hundreds of local businesses with equipment and engineering support when they needed it most. This vital work helped build a reputation for Hitec, which it continues to uphold, as a trusted local supplier that always puts the customer first.
Pros was also at the helm during the acquisition of Hitec by Briggs Equipment, which has enabled the business to go from strength to strength since the deal was completed in 2018.

Hitec Lift Trucks has completed the delivery of a new fleet of Hyster counterbalance forklifts to its long term customer Freefoam. The new trucks arrived at the Northampton site in April 2021 and have replaced an existing fleet of competitor machines, which were unable to perform to the required intensity and demands.
Even though the trucks have only been in place for a short while, they are having an instant impact of productivity and efficiency, with production up by 25% since installation. The machines are specifically designed to operate in high intensity industrial environments and will support the growth and development of Freefoam’s business moving forward.
Paul Stiff, Hitec Lift Trucks’ Regional Business Development Manager, commented: “We are delighted to have completed this delivery of new trucks to Freefoam. We have worked closely with them previously on different projects and we’re proud to have been chosen to supply these latest additions to their equipment fleet.

Establishing strong partnerships with local businesses throughout the East of England has long been the Hitec Lift Trucks approach. Robinson Manufacturing Limited, who have a site in Wellingborough, also believe in the concept of ‘choosing local’ and recently took delivery of 3 new Combilift side-loader forklifts from Hitec to supplement their existing fleet.
The new machines are specifically designed for businesses that require robust and fast operation when moving products across sites, which was a key requirement identified during the evaluation process. Hitec were able to successfully demonstrate how the four-wheeled, two directional configuration of the equipment would help deliver a solution that simultaneously improved efficiency, productivity and safety.
The machines were delivered in December 2020 and the feedback from the operators has been extremely positive, with ease of use and the reliability of the machines specifically mentioned.

Hitec Lift Trucks has completed the delivery of a new articulated Flexi truck to the English Heritage site, Wrest Park in Bedfordshire.
The machine will be used mainly to help the Collections team at Wrest Park safely store and transport a wide range of artefacts and delicate items across their site, which is gearing up for a busy summer period following the anticipated relaxation of COVID restrictions.
